Who ate all the pies, who ate all the pies …

Whilst I do love a good pork pie or in fact pretty much any pastry based product, I have recently started to try and perfect the tricky art of thin, crumbly pastry with an array of different creations.

To date, my pie-story sits at  2 game pies, 1 ham hock and chicken pie, pasties, pork pies, empanadas, and sausage rolls (a disaster – thanks a lot Ginger Pig Cookbook!).

My finest creation, even if I say so myself, was actually my first attempt at a pie and that was this recipe here Raised Game Pie Recipe . You can see from my pic below, I actually came pretty close to looking like the picture. This was a mammoth undertaking, from de-breasting whole pheasants through, creating the perfect hot water pastry, and in the actual building and timing of the pie. But the blood, sweat (or should that be swearing !) and tears it was most definitely worth it and I can honestly say this was one of the best days ever!

My most recent undertaking were the empanadas, small Argentinian pasties, I did half with Chorizo and potato and half with a spicy chicken – delicious. One helpful friend did comment that the pastry was a little thick – so something to work on, but there were certainly no arguments that they tasted great!

I have a load of other photos on my old mobile so planning on updating with some more photos and recipes on my return. But be sure to pop in to Henry’s coffeeshop (name tbc!) for some homemade pastry products to get you through the day!
